Grizzly Bear-‘Yet Again’

‘Yet Again’. Never has there been a more apt title for a Grizzly Bear tune. Because yet again they’ve produced a fantastic track, which heightens the expectancy for another fantastic album. This is what the lads sound like when they are going for a straight up rock effort. Razor sharp guitars and smooth vocals. Love this.

Major Lazer-‘Get Free’

Along the same lines as my previous post, this is a wonderful track from Major Lazer. ‘Get Free’ is awesome.

Destiny’s Child-‘Say My Name’-(Cyril Hahn Remix)

This is bloody great. Just great. Cyril Hahn’s remix of the Destiny’s Child smash hit ‘Say My Name’. This shows what a great remix is all about. Putting a different perspective on a well known tune.

New Animal Collective-‘Today’s Supernatural’

For Animal Collective, they reached a peak with 2009’s Merriweather Post Pavillion.’ The record was astounding, featuring so many different sounds and textures. To follow that was always going to be a great task, considering what a creative success it was. The first two pieces of new music from the lads since then don’t really hint at what the future sounds like, but they are interesting anyway. ‘Honeycomb’ was a fast paced thriller of a single. Latest track ‘Today’s Supernatural’ is so very very catchy. It’s as poppy as you’re likely to hear the lads. Very interesting indeed. Still not sure what I make of it.

Flying Lotus: ‘Between Friends’ (Ft. Earl Sweatshirt & Captain Murphy)

This new piece of music is a seriously exciting collaboration. Flying Lotus alongside Earl Sweatshirt and Captain Murphy, which makes for an awesome combination. This track is brilliant. Earl adds so much and the Lotus beat is as good as ever.

Bat For Lashes-‘Laura’

In 2009, ‘Daniel’ by Bat For Lashes was one of my favourite tracks of the year. Hunting and inventive, it was part of a brilliant record, ‘Two Suns’. The new Bat For Lashes track ‘Laura’ is absolutely beautiful. Her slow words fade over a calm piano piece. Well worth the listen.

Bruce Springsteen In Dublin 2012

Last night I went to see Bruce Springsteen at the RDS Dublin, something I have always wanted to do. It was well worth it. The Boss really is astonishing live. Along with the E-Street Band they played a set of around 3 and a half hours, remarkable for a 62 year old veteran! Early on he played material from latest album ‘Wrecking Ball’, then fired into the old classics. The encore consisted of six songs, including ‘Born In The USA’ (very rarely played), ‘Born To Run’ and ‘Dancing In The Dark’. They paid tribute to late sax player Clarence Clemons at the end during ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze Out.’ He took the piss out’ve the people who cut their Hyde Park show. He even brought a little girl onstage who sang the words to ‘Waiting On A Sunny Day’, which was a great moment. A phenomenal performance, the second gig is tonight and everyone is in for a treat.

New Track: The xx-‘Angels’

The xx are back with a new album, tour and this new track, ‘Angels’. It is the opening song on their second LP ‘Coexist’, out September 10th over here. It is nothing majorly new from them, the same dark and tender sound. But that is not a bad thing, because their sound is just so fantastic. I expect the album to be a lot more groundbreaking.

Video: Purity Ring-Fineshrine

The video for Purity Ring’s awesome new single Fineshrine is online. Really love this track, it is a slice of electro pop that enters the same territory as Grimes
