Bruce Springsteen In Dublin 2012

Last night I went to see Bruce Springsteen at the RDS Dublin, something I have always wanted to do. It was well worth it. The Boss really is astonishing live. Along with the E-Street Band they played a set of around 3 and a half hours, remarkable for a 62 year old veteran! Early on he played material from latest album ‘Wrecking Ball’, then fired into the old classics. The encore consisted of six songs, including ‘Born In The USA’ (very rarely played), ‘Born To Run’ and ‘Dancing In The Dark’. They paid tribute to late sax player Clarence Clemons at the end during ‘Tenth Avenue Freeze Out.’ He took the piss out’ve the people who cut their Hyde Park show. He even brought a little girl onstage who sang the words to ‘Waiting On A Sunny Day’, which was a great moment. A phenomenal performance, the second gig is tonight and everyone is in for a treat.

Bon Iver To Play O2 Dublin In November

Just got the fantastic news that Bon Iver will play the O2 Dublin on Monday the 12th of November. I could not be more happy about this, because I was meant to go to the gig in the Grand Canal Theater  last year, but circumstances got in the way. Delighted about this news though. Tickets are on sale this Friday from Ticketmaster and are 36.50.

Ones To Watch: Clu

Ah, tonight has been awesome for discovering new stuff. Found this through a Facebook page I’m in. Clu, an electronic producer from here in Dublin’s fair city. Apparently MMOTHS has been spinning his tunes during his sets and its easy to see why. Clu’s music is cut from the same cloth. Sparse, expansive and seriously chill. This really is a golden age for Irish electronic music. We are really producing the artists and the music, from REPLETEto MMOTHSto Reid and now this lad. Keep it up people.

Ones To Watch: PRINCESS

These guys are a throwback. From Dublin, it is easy to see their influences. Think Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. These lads take those influences and create a modern version of grunge. Of course they have an Irish charm and hard work. Their twitter account is very entertaining and of course their music is class. Check some stuff out below along with their social networking malarky.

The Cast Of Cheers-‘Animals’/Album Details

Here’s the long awaited new track from one of Dublin’s finest young Indie bands The Cast Of Cheers. ‘Animals’ is off their forthcoming second album ‘Family.’ I really dig this track, just like anything they have released so far. It’s less intense than ‘Family’ , with more melodic playing and vocals. Their passion is phenomenal though, it really is. These guys are one of the most exciting Irish bands around.

Choice Music Prize Announced Tonight

The Choice Music Prize 2012 for Irish album of the year will be announced tonight (March 8th). The event itself is Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and is sold out. For those not attending, the show is live on Paul McCloone’s show on Today FM from 7pm this evening.

The nominations for the award are as follows: And So I Watch You From Afar-Gangs, Bell X1Bloodless Coup, Cashier No. 9-To The Death of Fun, Lisa HanniganPassenger, The Japanese PopstarsControlling Your Alliegance, JapeOcean Of Frequency, Patrick Kellagher & His Cold Dead HandsGolden Syrup, PugwashThe Olympus Sounds, TieranniesaurTieranniesaur and We Cut Corners-Today I Learned I Could Go Home Backwards.

All the albums are really good, so it is hard to make predictions. If I was going for my favourite, I would want We Cut Corners to win because I love them. If I was going for a sentimental win, it would be Bell X1 for all the years they’ve been nominated. The ones I probably think will win are Cashier No.9. They are the favourites. I’ll have the results updated later on in some dreamy state.
