Track: Hey Sholay-‘Burning’

My attention has been drawn to these guys recently. Hey Sholay from Sheffield and Leeds. Their new single ‘Burning’ is out this coming Monday the 11th. It is a charming track, with bristling guitars and dreamy pianos. The vocalist brings a shining quality to the track too. Their BBC Introducing set is available to check out at their TumblrWell worth checking out. I like it a lot.

Ones To Watch: Broken Hands

These guys come highly recommended by me. A four piece from Kent called Broken Hands. They formed in 2011 and have opened for Band Of Skulls around the UK. They have a very bluesy rock vibe and they definitely are influenced The White Stripes and Band Of SkullsNew single ‘Sorrow’ is heavy, but also bluesy. It also has what may become famous lyrics “because we don’t have a future.” I disagree. These guys will make a splash. Love what I’ve heard so far, really looking forward to more material in the future.

Ones To Watch: Professor Penguin

Haven’t done one of these in a while, but these guys are worth a serious mention. Professor Penguin are a nine-piece (massive alright) from London. They have been receiving huge support from the likes Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio One  and Steve Lamacq on BBC6 Music. Most impressively, they have a fan in Brian Eno, who called their new single ‘Pirate’ a “Beautiful Piece.” They will release their debut album ‘Planes’ on the April the 9th. The biggest complement I can give them is that they sound like Bombay Bicycle Club, melodic and relaxed. Check out their new single ‘Pirate’ below, along with other music from the band and all their social networking sites.

Track: New Blur Song

Blur last night performed a new track live at the War Child charity gig in London‘Under The Westway’ is their second new track since reforming in 2009. I’m in a great mood after this news and I’ve listened to it quite a few times now. Seriously mellow stuff from the lads.

Damon Albarn and Flea’s group to make debut in Ireland this weekend

The long awaited album collaboration from Damon Albarn and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers seems near to completion. The group which also comprises drummer Tony Allen (who is in one of Albarn’s other side-projects ‘The Good, The Bad & The Queen’). They have come up with a title for a “mostly instrumental album”, ‘Rocket Juice & The Moon’ as reported in the Irish Times.

The band will make their live debut at a series of events over the weekend called “Another Honest Jon’s Chop Up!”, which will take place in LondonDublin and Cork. The Events are being organised by ‘Honest Jons’ the record label Albarn co-owns.

Albarn is a famous ‘workaholic’, always keeping busy with some project. He released two Gorillaz albums last year, he has written the score to the short film ‘The Boy in the Oak’, he released a collaboration album of African music in the Congo called DRC Music and there is also tentative plans for an American tour by Blur possibly in 2012.

The Stone Roses Confirm Reunion

The Stone Roses today confirmed that they will reform for a tour next year and there may be some new material to come too. The Manchester band’s reunion will include two hometown gigs in Heaton Park on the 29th and 30th of June followed by a world tour. Asked whether there would also be a new album, Ian Brown said “We hope so, but we said that before didn’t we? We’ll ride this until the wheels come off, like we did last time.”

The band split in 1996 after 13 years together. They released two albums, the critically acclaimed self-titled debut in 1989 and the underrated ‘Second Coming’ in 1994. Brown and John Squire have both had successful solo careers. Here’s the video to their classic track ‘Waterfall’ below:
