Track: New Gaslight Anthem-’45’

Zane Lowe premiered ’45’, the new single by The Gaslight Anthemlast night on his BBC Radio 1 show. As you would expect, this is full of emotion but is very hard hitting also. I’ve been a massive fan of these guys since the ’59 Sound’ and its been great to see their progression. The band’s fourth record will be released in the summer of 2012 at some stage. Brian Fallon’s interview with Lowe was funny, as he said even Bruce Springsteen hasn’t received a copy of it! One to certainly look forward to.

The Top 20 Tracks Of 2011 Number: 6

Number 6: The Cast Of Cheers-Family

Despite only released in the last few weeks, ‘Family’ by ‘The Cast Of Cheers’ is a seriously exciting track. The killer hook and jangly math guitars make you wanna bounce around the room. The band are obviously going to have Bloc Party and Foals comparisons, but that is a little unfair. Gaining attention in the UK on the back of airtime on Zane Lowe’s Show on BBC, these Dubliners could be around for a long time.

Introducing: The Cast Of Cheers

I haven’t written an introducing piece in a while, but now seems an appropriate time to introduce these guys. The Cast Of Cheers are a four piece from Dublin. Their music has been described as Indie/Math Rock, with obvious comparisons to Bloc Party and Foals being made. Their snappy guitar riffs and catchy hooks definitely have caused excitement in the Irish music scene.

Last night was a watershed moment for the band, with their new single ‘Family’ getting played on Zane Lowe’s Show on BBC Radio One in the ‘Next Hype’ segment. It was subsequently repeated after listeners responded overwhelmingly positively, which as Zane himself said was a first.

The future should be very interesting for the band. Many will now anticipate an album and a bright future. With the support of DJ’s like Lowe in the UK, there is definitely a sense that these guys will be around for the future. Listen to their previous single ‘Goose’ below via Bandcamp:
